Ready. Set. Summer!

Tulsa Public Schools

Expanded Learning is a collaborative strategy constructed and implemented by schools and community partners to broaden our definition of where, how, and when learning happens - moving us closer to becoming a city of learning. Expanded Learning is an equitable approach to learning and gives young people, especially those who live in communities with less access to resources, more time and a wider-range of opportunities to learn. It focuses on developing knowledge, skills, abilities, and mindsets for successful life and career journeys as they discover their passions and purpose in the world. This summer in particular will enable young people and adults to re-connect, strengthen relationships, and have fun during the summer time. Regardless of when or where it happens, expanded learning in Tulsa Public Schools will include intentional programming, high-quality learning, building a sense of belonging, and backbone supports. At elementary, programming will create meaningful, fun-filled, and engaging days that include, but are not limited to: 1. Daily time devoted to connecting and building relationships (amongst students, adults, and community) 2. Experiential learning through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math(STEAM) projects 3. Opportunities for arts; physical activity & recreation; and community- centered, culturally-affirming, and celebratory enrichment activities driven by youth voice and choice 4. Academic acceleration and intervention in literacy and math 5.
